About

Just a girl, just an ordinary girl, putting her Harvard degree to good, practical use by spending a year probably making a fool of herself in the Middle East through the generosity of the George Peabody Gardner Traveling Fellowship. Through stilted Arabic and enthusiastic hand gestures, I hope to learn about how the arts in Jordan have played a role in the representation of refugee populations — both those several generations old and those currently increasing — and the activism of women in Jordanian society.

Below is a candid photo from my last, brief visit to Jordan, in which I attempted to engage substantially with a mainstream cultural practice and smoke hookah. It seems that in addition to my ghostly complexion, my asthma will also prove to be an obstacle to my hopes for inconspicuousness.
